Grey mackerel

Scomberomorus semifasciatus

Grey mackerel (Scomberomorus semifasciatus) — illustration

Illustration: Bloom by Day

A dark blue-grey mackerel that is almost unmarked once it is over 70 cm, which is itself the mark — the other mackerels keep their bars, blotches or spots. It schools in turbid inshore water, which is where it is usually met.

Description written for Bloom. RECORDS ARE WHERE SOMEONE LOOKED, NOT WHERE THE FISH ARE. A record count is a count of records near here and nothing else -- it is not abundance, and a species with few records is not rare. Absence of records is not absence of fish.
