Pomatomus saltatrix

Tailor (Pomatomus saltatrix) — illustration

Illustration: Bloom by Day

Blue-green over silver, built like a blade, with a jaw full of obvious teeth that explains the shredded baitfish around them. They hunt in fast packs through the surf zone and are usually heard as a commotion before they are seen.

Description written for Bloom. RECORDS ARE WHERE SOMEONE LOOKED, NOT WHERE THE FISH ARE. A record count is a count of records near here and nothing else -- it is not abundance, and a species with few records is not rare. Absence of records is not absence of fish.
