Snapper

Chrysophrys auratus

Snapper (Chrysophrys auratus) — illustration

Illustration: Bloom by Day

Deep-bodied and rose-pink with a scatter of iridescent blue spots along the upper flank, and older fish carry a pronounced bump on the forehead. They hold off the bottom over reef edges and tend to ease away at a constant distance rather than spook.

Description written for Bloom. RECORDS ARE WHERE SOMEONE LOOKED, NOT WHERE THE FISH ARE. A record count is a count of records near here and nothing else -- it is not abundance, and a species with few records is not rare. Absence of records is not absence of fish.
