Red bass

Lutjanus bohar

Red bass (Lutjanus bohar) — illustration

Illustration: Bloom by Day

NO TAKE — ciguatera

A heavy red snapper with a steep forehead, a deep body and two small pits in front of the eyes. It is one of the bolder reef fish and will often drop in behind you and follow along a bommie, which makes it easy to photograph and easy to misidentify as something tamer.

Description written for Bloom. RECORDS ARE WHERE SOMEONE LOOKED, NOT WHERE THE FISH ARE. A record count is a count of records near here and nothing else -- it is not abundance, and a species with few records is not rare. Absence of records is not absence of fish.
