Paddletail

Lutjanus gibbus

Paddletail (Lutjanus gibbus) — illustration

Illustration: Bloom by Day

NO TAKE — ciguatera

Pale pink-grey with a distinctly dark-edged, paddle-shaped tail that gives it its name. Through the middle of the day they hang in loose, slow-moving schools in the lee of coral heads and barely react to a diver.

Description written for Bloom. RECORDS ARE WHERE SOMEONE LOOKED, NOT WHERE THE FISH ARE. A record count is a count of records near here and nothing else -- it is not abundance, and a species with few records is not rare. Absence of records is not absence of fish.
